FIDMarseille unveils 2021 lineup

FIDMarseille 2021 will be held a little later than usual in July, from the 19th to the 25th, with the Grand Prix d’Honneur winner coming from Thailand: Apichatpong Weerasethakul.

Most of his films will be shown at FIDMarseille, from his first feature (restored by Martin Scorsese) to his latest (Memoria), and the director himself will introduce several screenings and give a masterclass.

Many other filmmakers will also honour the festival with their presence. In the international jury, Lav Diaz will be the chairman, while Lech Kowalski will lead the jury in French competition.

In total, 110 films from 38 countries will be shown at FIDMarseille: 49 in competition (including 42 world premieres and 4 international premieres) and 61 out of competition (including 28 world, international and French premieres).

The festival will open with Mano a mano by Priscilla Telmon and Vincent Moon Saura, featuring famous rocker Rodolphe Burger and Eric Cantona. Both will be at the open-air Silvain theater to present the film. After that, there will be a live concert by Mademoiselle, a band composed of Rodolphe Burger, Sofiane Saidi and Mehdi Haddab.

Dedicated to really short films, the Flash Competition that was introduced last year has been renewed indefinitely, as well as the Alice Guy Prize, which is awarded to a female director. A new prize for Best (male or female) Actor will be awarded this year by the international, French and Parallel competitions juries.

FIDMarseille also worked up on a programme of 7 African films that have never been shown in France, and FIDCampus is also back this year, allowing fifteen young directors, coming from all over the world, to go to a training course with world-famous filmmakers.
