Academy winner Daniel Day-Lewis makes a rare acting comeback in Anemone, his first performance since he quit in 2017.
The dark thriller is directed by his son Ronan Day-Lewis. Also starring are Sean Bean, Samantha Morton, Samuel Bottomley and Safia Oakley-Green.
Shot in 1980s Yorkshire, it centers on two brothers who grow up together but have distanced themselves from one another — one living the suburban family life, the other a lonely ex-combatant who has become a recluse. The film examines complicated family ties, generational strife and individual processes.
Written by father and son, Anemone is the production of Focus Features and Plan B. Global distribution falls to Universal Pictures International.
The thriller opens at the 2025 New York Film Festival and in U.S. cinemas on October 3, expanding on October 10.
